List of birth preparation courses in english - Berlin
I ordered these birth preparation classes in english based on location, but many classes can be offered online too!
This list is not exhaustive :) Ask your chosen birth setting what they offer, or your midwife, gynaecologist, friends for recommendations.
What are the costs?
Some courses are covered by health insurance, some aren't, for example hypno-birthing courses are usually not covered, or courses not provided by midwives. Usually your partner has to pay a fee (see TK policy). Get in touch with your insurer/course leader to explore payment and refund options.
How long does it last?
Some courses spread over a few evenings, some are intensive courses over a weekend.
When to attend?
The best time to attend a preparation course is probably in the start of the last trimester of pregnancy (not too early, not too late :) )
What will I learn?
You’ll learn the basics about labor, breathing, and relaxation techniques together with other expectant parents.
Because it’s a group setting, the information is not tailored to your individual needs. These classes are usually taught by midwives and provide a solid overview from the medical system’s perspective.
I believe this is a valuable starting point that can be complemented with more individualized support (for example for a doula), for a truly empowering birth experience.
